RAMALLAH, May 22 (Xinhua) -- At least four Palestinians were injured Monday during clashes in several West Bank areas between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli soldiers, medics said.

The clashes broke out in support for Palestinian prisoners, who have been going on a hunger strike in Israeli prisons for 36 days in-a-raw. Most of the clashes concentrated near the Israeli army roadblock of Qalandia near Ramallah.

Medical sources said the four wounded are in moderate conditions after they were shot by live ammunition during the clashes with the Israeli soldiers at the roadblock.

The clashes coincided with a general strike that dominated all the Palestinian territories in support for the prisoners, where schools, universities, banks and governmental establishments closed down for one day.

Violence between Israel and the Palestinians in the West Bank mounted in support for the prisoners in Israeli jails, as United States President Donald Trump is paying a visit on Monday to Israel and the West Bank city of Bethlehem.
