TIRANA, May 21 (Xinhua) -- After Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and main opposition Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha agreed earlier this week to postpone the parliamentary elections for one week, President Bujar Nishani on Sunday set June 25 as the new election day.
As part of his continued institutional initiative to promote political dialogue to reach compromised solutions, the president welcomes the agreement as a major achievement in the country's as well as Albanian citizens' best interest, Director of President's cabinet, Olsi Lafe told reporters.
Lafe further announced that the president had also set June 25 as the date for the by-mayoral elections in the western town of Kavaja, which failed to be held on May 7.
Local media reported Sunday that the Parliament will meet in an extraordinary session on Monday to vote the presidential decree on dismissal and appointment of the Deputy Prime Minister and six ministers as part of a new cabinet reshuffle under this week's political accord.
The agenda of the plenary session will include discussion and voting on issues for the implementation of the Political Agreement that was struck by Rama and Basha on May 18 as a way to end the three-month political deadlock in the country.
