KIEV, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister Stepan Kubiv on Friday spoke highly of his recent visit to the Belt and Road Forum in China, saying it has brought fruitful results.

"This visit highlighted Ukraine's integration into the global community of economic and trade relations, the formation of new principles, the new policy and Ukraine's role in the Silk Road," Kubiv told reporters here at a media briefing.

During the visit to Beijing, the Ukrainian delegation reached a series of agreements with China on enhancing cooperation in infrastructure, transport, aviation industry, logistics and machine-building, he said.

Kubiv headed the Ukrainian delegation to the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, which was held on May 14-15.

The Belt and Road Initiative was proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013 with an aim to build trade and infrastructure networks connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along the ancient Silk Road routes.

Ukraine has formally joined the Silk Road project in 2015, launching a train to China via the sea-rail Trans-Caspian International Transport Route through Georgia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
