ISTANBUL, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Six fans of Greek Olympiakos basketball team were injured on Friday in a scuffle with some Turks in central Istanbul, local media reported.

The Hurriyet daily said the brawl erupted in Istanbul's Istiklal Street when Greek Olympiakos fans started to chant and light torches. Some locals reacted angrily to the group by shouting slogans including Constantinople, name of Istanbul during the Roman and Byzantine Empires.

One of the Greek fans was stabbed in the leg while others suffered minor injuries in the ensuing melee, the daily said, noting all were taken to hospital.

Police detained four people allegedly involved in the scuffle, according to the report.

In a separate incident, two other Greek fans were attacked by some locals wearing jersey of Turkish sport club Fenerbahce near a basketball stadium in Sirinevler neighborhood, Hurriyet said.

The Greek fans are in Istanbul for the EuroLeague Final Four that starts on Friday.

Fenerbahce, Olympiacos, CSKA Moscow from Russia and Real Madrid from Spain are joining the two-day EuroLeague tournament.
