11 civilians killed in E. Afghan roadside bombing

KABUL, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Eleven Afghan civilians were killed after a vehicle ran over a Taliban-planting roadside bomb in eastern Logar province Friday, a local official said.

Provincial Governor Halim Fidai said on his official twitter account that the incident occurred in Zarghon Shahir area of the province, 60 km south of Kabul.

Those among the killed were five women and five children.

The victims were members of one family and they were travelling after attending a wedding party in the mountainous province, said the official.

The Afghan civilians continue to bear the brunt of armed conflicts as 715 civilians were killed and 1,460 others injured in conflict-related incidents in the first three months of the year, according to figures released by the United Nation mission in the country.
