OSLO, May 19 (Xinhua) -- The farmers' union in Norway blocked 25 wholesale food distribution centers across the country Friday to stop the delivery of food to stores, newspaper Aftenposten reported.

The blockades of grocery shipments, which took place in thhe morning, was to protest an agricultural settlement that the union is dissatisfied with.

Jan Andre Delbeck, Follo police district operation manager, said the protests were illegal.

Between 200 and 300 farmers participated in the protest after farmers' state subsidy demands were not met on Tuesday.

Norway's Minister of Agriculture Jon Georg Dale was critical of the union's blockade plans.

"I have noticed that farmers who have said no to higher revenue growth than other groups now implement actions that can affect common people's access to food," Dale said.

He added that farmers in this way affect the same citizens to whom they later will send their tax bill.

"Retail workers, nurses and plumbers, who have shown moderation in their wage demands, will not be able to regard as reasonable that farmers who have been promised higher income growth than themselves, are now making their lives more difficult," Dale said.
