NAY PYI TAW, May 18 (Xinhua)-- The 5th session of both houses of Myanmar's parliament resumed in Nay Pyi Taw Thursday after two months' adjournment.
A total of 21 fresh representatives including nine elected in the April by-election and 12 military directly-assigned ones were sworn in the office.
The nine new elected parliament representatives include five with the House of Representative (Lower House), three with the House of Nationalities ( Upper House) and one with the Shan state parliament.
Speaker of the House of Representatives U Win Myint urged the parliament members to actively participate in promoting the development of political, social and economic sectors of the country.
In the resumed parliament sessions, some new laws are expected to be promulgated.
In the last April by-election, the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD), led by Aung San Suu Kyi, won a total of nine seats out of 19 vacant ones, occupying nearly half number of the parliamentary seats.
Of the nine seats won by the NLD, five are with the House of Representatives (Lower House), three with the House of Nationalities (Upper House) and one with the Shan state parliament.
The current parliament was formed through the general election in November 2015 and dominated by election-winning NLD party.
