ISTANBUL, May 17 (Xinhua) -- More than 300 foreign nationals residing in Istanbul's Sultangazi district are being removed over the killing of a young Turkish man, local media reported on Wednesday.

Afghan, Pakistani and Syrian nationals believed to be illegal migrants were taken by police to shelter centers in the city overnight and are expected to be sent to refugee camps outside of Istanbul after the completion of paper works, the Milliyet daily said.

Tension remained high in Sultangazi since 24-year-old Ramazan Sahin was stabbed to death on Sunday night during a brawl between Turkish residents and a group of Afghans and Syrians.

Some youngsters in the neighborhood on Monday beat an Afghan man with sticks, prompting police to disperse the crowd by firing painted capsules.

Armed vehicles were patrolling the area while riot police were on guard in the neighborhood, according to press reports.
