RABAT, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Morocco and Nigeria signed here on Monday agreements to construct a major gas pipeline linking West African countries.
The Gazoduc pipeline project, which will pass through several West African countries and may stretch to Europe, was finalized during the visit of Morocco's King Mohammed VI to Nigeria in December, 2016.
In a presentation on the pipeline project, Morocca's Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said the pipeline will have a positive impact on more than 300 million inhabitants, as it would serve as the basis for a competitive electricity market in all West Africa.
The project reflects the two countries' shared vision to set a model of sustainable, active and solidarity-based joint development for Africa, he said.
Meanwhile, Bourita's Nigerian counterpart Geoffrey Onyeama stressed that the conclusion of the pipeline agreements proves the success of Rabat-Abuja partnership.
On the same day, the two countries also signed an agreement on fertilizer capacity-building and production in Nigeria.
The agreement aims to explore and upgrade phosphate reserves in Nigeria to enable the West African country to maximize its fertilizer production.
