MINSK, May 15 (Xinhua) -- The World Bank has predicted a 0.4 percent GDP decline in Belarus in 2017, the economist of the Belarusian office of the World Bank Kirill Haiduk told reporters here on Monday.

The economist explained the projected decline by the existing structural shortcomings and shrinking domestic demand.

According to the World Bank, the financial support from the Russian government will have only a temporary impact on the solution of internal and external imbalances.

The World Bank expects a weak recovery in economic growth in 2018-2019. The Belarusian economy can grow by 0.7 percent in 2018, the forecast for 2019 is plus 1.2 percent, Haiduk said.

In 2016, Belarus' GDP decreased by 2.6 percent.
