BUCHAREST, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Production was partially interrupted Saturday at the Dacia Automobile Plant in Mioveni, southern Romania, following a cyber attack that affected some of the information systems.

"A part of the production activity of Dacia Mioveni Plant was affected by computer system malfunctions," announced a press release from Renault Romania Group.

Founded in 1966, the Dacia plant has been a subsidiary of the French car manufacturer Renault since 1999.

"The measure was taken to prevent the expansion of the dysfunctions, which, at first glance, are a consequence of the global cyber attack," said the release.

The plant would have been the target of a cyber attack last night and the computer systems would have been seriously affected, blocking the work of several robotic sections altogether -- an unprecedented situation for the plant, reported local media.

With a production capacity of 350,000 vehicles per year, the Dacia plant is Romania's top company by revenue and the largest exporter.

On Friday, Romania's Cyberint National Center, operating under the authority of the Romanian Intelligence Service, announced that it counteracted a cyber attack attempt against a governmental institution.
