ANKARA, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned on Thursday Germany's decision to accept asylum applications of some former military personnel affiliated with the Gulen Movement.

In a statement, the ministry "condemned regretfully" Germany for putting bilateral relations at risk.

Germany's decision to accept Gulen members is contradict to the spirit of alliance and will damage multidimensional relations, the statement said.

According to the statement, Germany has disregarded democratic principles by welcoming Gulen-linked coup perpetrators.

Fethullah Gulen, the U.S.-based preacher, is accused by the Turkish government of orchestrating the 2016 failed coup attempt.

The Turkish government has launched a massive crackdown on Gulen's supporters in the aftermath of the coup attempt.
