AMMAN, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The United States will provide Jordan with 1.3 billion U.S. dollars in aid in 2017, Jordan's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury said Tuesday.

Fakhoury made the remarks after meeting with a visiting U.S. congressional delegation in Amman.

The minister stressed the importance of Jordan-U.S. strategic relations and the U.S.'s assistance programs to the kingdom over the past years.

Jordan is a key recipient of U.S. financial aid and a partner in the U.S.-led coalition battling Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq.

Fakhoury also called for more aid from international community to countries affected by the influx of Syrian refugees, in order to address economic challenges and pressure imposed by the refugee crisis.

Jordan is home to around 1.4 million Syrian refugees.
