YANGON, May 9 (Xinhua) -- A total of 697 drug-related cases were exposed in Myanmar in March, according to a release from Myanmar Police Force late on Monday.

Shan State in the northeast topped the list with 158 drug-related cases, followed by Kachin State and Yangon region.

The country has been implementing a five-year drug elimination plan during 2014-2019 to eradicate narcotic drugs.

In the first eight months of last year, over 700 drug-related cases including trading of opium, Yaba pills and other illegal chemical substances, were exposed in Yangon region.

The country also burned over 56 million U.S. dollars worth of seized narcotic drugs in Yangon, Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw and Taunggyi in June of last year.
