BEIJING, May 5 (Xinhuanet) --The Belt and Road Initiative highlights China’s new outlook on cooperative development, said Zhang Yunling, director of the international studies department of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Zhang underscored this view during a recent press salon held by the China Journalists Association.

According to Zhang, the Belt and Road Initiative has not only struck a chord among participating countries, but also got high profile in meetings of UN and other international organizations.

The upcoming Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation aims to find bigger common ground on cooperation to achieve tangible fruits, Zhang said.

He noted that the Belt and Road Initiative is raised to build new economic development belt through land-sea connection.

It is different from traditional foreign investment, Zhang said, adding that the Initiative is proposed to improve the integrated investment environment and help address the development divergence domestically, regionally and globally.

It highlights China’s new outlook on cooperative development, Zhang explained.

He stressed that cooperative development calls for joint contribution and shared benefits.

China will help boost the development of other nations and stimulate local economic growth with its own advantages and experience. In turn, Chinese enterprises will be able to gain from other countries’ prosperity.

Zhang acknowledged that the Belt and Road Initiative requires long-term efforts and the resolve to face difficulties and challenges. We should implement the less difficult, less risky projects first and unite people with common goals and interests, he added.

There’s a rising tide of anti-globalization and protectionism, which is a big test for the Initiative, as Zhang pointed out.

But it must be known that anti-globalization is an inevitable byproduct of globalization, offering an opportunity for the Belt and Road Initiative to lead globalization in the right direction, he concluded.

More than 90 journalists from 48 news organizations attended the press salon.
