PHNOM PENH, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Thursday called on the European Union (EU) not to interfere in its domestic affairs.
The move comes after the EU criticized the country's court for extending a further six-month detention of five local human rights activists.
"By law, the investigating judge can decide to extend the pre-trial detention twice with a period of six months each," a Cambodian foreign ministry spokesman said in a statement.
The five activists were arrested in April last year and placed in a pre-trial detention since then under the charges of bribing a witness.
