PRAGUE, May 3 (Xinhua) -- The Czech government on Wednesday approved an interior ministry plan to establish a new police unit that will use drones.
According to the plan, drone bases will be built in Prague, Brno, Ceske Budejovice, and Ostrava over the next two years.
The Czech police also plans to improve protection against drones, particularly when it comes to the presidential seats at Prague Castle and Lany Chateau.
The police will use the drones for aerial photography, to search for missing persons in difficult terrain, monitoring situations when security measures are in force, and to document fires, industrial and natural disasters, pyrotechnical surveying, and state border protection.
The police now have 12 drones that belong to the category of commonly available devices. The new unit will have 28 members. The first drone base will be set up in Prague in 2018 at the latest, and the others in the latter half of 2019.
The total cost of the plan is an estimated 160 million crowns (about 6.5 million U.S. dollars).
