JALALABAD, Afghanistan, May 1 (Xinhua) -- A suicide bomber was killed after he rammed a car bomb at a foreign forces' convoy in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar on Monday, a spokesman of the provincial government said.

The attack took place in Barekab locality of Rodat district roughly at 3:00 p.m. local time (1030 GMT), spokesman Attahullah Khogyani told Xinhua.

"No passersby were around the road when the blast occurred and no member of the convoy was hurt as they were travelling in armored military vehicles," the official noted.

An investigation was launched into the attack and more details will be shared with media afterward, he said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but Taliban militants and fighters of the Islamic State (IS) group are active in parts of the mountainous province, 120 km east of Kabul.

On Wednesday, two U.S. soldiers were killed and one was injured during an operation against IS militants in Achin District of Nangarhar.
