Vietnam's traffic accidents decline in January-April

HO CHI MINH CITY, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Between January and April, 6,369 traffic accidents occurred in Vietnam, killing 2,795 people, severely injuring 1,440 people and lightly hurting 3,679 others, the country's Traffic Police Department said Sunday.

The numbers of traffic accidents, deaths and severe injuries and slight injuries caused by the accidents declined, respectively, by 3.9 percent, 2.4 percent, 26.8 percent and 5.2 percent from a year earlier.

On average, in the first four months of this year, Vietnam saw 53 traffic accidents each day which claimed 23 lives and injured 42 people.

Last year, 21,589 traffic accidents occurred in Vietnam, killing 8,685 people, severely injuring 6,180 people and slightly hurting 13,100 others, said the department.
