BEIJING, April 30 (Xinhua) -- "The Fate of the Furious", or "Fast 8", became the all-time top-grossing imported film in China on Saturday, with ticket sales of 2.44 billion yuan (around 350 million U.S. dollars) since its opening on April 14.

The latest instalment in the Hollywood film franchise "Fast and Furious" surpassed its prequel, "Furious 7", which raked in 2.42 billion yuan in 2015, to top the chart.

This is not the first time the blockbuster smashed a box office record in China.

On its opening day, the film pulled in 386 million yuan, making it the biggest day ever in Chinese box office history, according to data from cinema website Maoyan.com.

"The Fate of the Furious" set another record for the highest revenue from midnight screenings, gathering 59.8 million yuan on its opening night to overtake the record of 52.5 million yuan made by "Furious 7" in April 2015.
