VALLETTA, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Denmark and Europol signed an agreement on Saturday here that will allow the exchange of vital operational data with Europol.
The agreement, signed by Director of Europol Rob Wainwright, and Director of the Danish National Police Svend Larsen, allows Denmark to share and exchange vital operational data despite not being a fully-fledged member of the European Union (EU)'s law enforcement agency.
The enhancement of the exchange and management of information by national law and border management authorities is paramount to heightening security in the EU bloc.
Lack of operational cooperation could have led to serious intelligence and information gap, thus putting the EU's security at risk.
"It is therefore most important for Member States to be coordinated in their struggle against organised crime and terrorism. Europol offers the most appropriate means for Member States to act together, to exchange important information between them, and to work in a coordinated manner, thus putting up a much stronger fight against the threats," said Maltese Internal Affairs and Security Minister Carmelo Abela.
