LJUBLJANA, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Slovenian officials on Friday condemned the violence that occurred at the Macedonian parliament on Thursday, which left more than 100 people injured.
The Slovenian Foreign Ministry called for stabilisation of the country, and said parliament should be a place of peace and democracy.
On Thursday, supporters of former Macedonian prime minister Nikola Gruevski stormed parliament, claiming the election last December was unfair.
The injured included Zoran Zaev, the head of the social-democratic SDSM party. Mass demonstrations had been held against the transfer of power to the new ruling coalition after Talat Dzaferi was appointed as parliamentary speaker.
Slovenian National Assembly Speaker Milan Brglez also expressed his sadness about the violence incident in Skopje and urged all sides to strive for a solution to the current parliamentary and government crisis.
The speaker stressed in a written statement that this must be done for the future of Macedonia, adding that the country could count on Slovenia's support in this respect.
