WASHINGTON, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Two U.S. soldiers were killed during an operation in Afghanistan against the Islamic State (IS) militants, the Pentagon said Thursday.

"Two U.S. service members were killed in action last night in southern Nangarhar, Afghanistan, during an operation against ISIS Khorasan," Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis said, referring to the group's affiliate in Afghanistan.

Earlier this month, the U.S. military dropped the largest non-nuclear bomb in Afghanistan on an IS target.

U.S. President Donald Trump gave the order for the U.S. military to drop a GBU-43 or Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) bomb on an IS cave complex in Nangarhar Province in Afghanistan, the first time such a bomb has been used in combat.

The MOAB, which weighs about 22,000 pounds, is nicknamed "Mother Of All Bombs."
