YANGON, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's fifth parliamentary sessions of both houses will resume in Nay Pyi Taw on May 18, two months after the fourth sessions ended on March 18, according to an announcement of the parliament on Thursday.

In the resuming parliament sessions, some laws are expected to be promulgated and parliament representatives-elect in the April by-election will be sworn in to office.

In the last April by-election, the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD), led by Aung San Suu Kyi, won a total of nine seats out of 19 vacant ones, occupying nearly half number of the parliamentary seats.

Of the nine seats won by the NLD, five are with the House of Representatives (Lower House), three with the House of Nationalities (Upper House) and one with the Shan state parliament.

The current parliament was formed through the general election in November 2015 and dominated by election-winning NLD party.
