BUCHAREST, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Romania will further support Georgia's Euro-Atlantic integration, and strengthen partnership with Georgia, Romanian leaders said Wednesday, when meeting with visiting Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili.

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis appreciated Georgia's progress in implementing the Association Agreement with the European Union, as well as Georgia's contribution to the Euro-Atlantic security.

Iohannis encouraged strengthening bilateral relations, including by stimulating relevant connectivity on a regional level, through the development of economic, energy and transport and the direct connection on the Black Sea between the two countries.

Romanian Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu reiterated the country's "firm support" for the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Georgia, in meeting with his Georgian counterpart.

Grindeanu told a joint press conference that he discussed with Kvirikashvili about common interest regional programmes in the transport and energy area, meant to highlight the importance of the Caspian Sea - the Black Sea corridor.

"Another area which we want to develop in the coming period is tourism, especially since the visa requirement for short visit in the community space for Georgian citizens has been recently lifted," Grindeanu added.

For his part, the Georgian prime minister said that Romania is perceived in Georgia as being the closest EU state to the country.

Kvirikashvili voiced his determination to intensify the economic cooperation with Romania.
