BUJUMBURA, April 26 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and four others injured in a grenade explosion that targeted a car Tuesday at Kamenge in the north of the Burundian capital Bujumbura, the Burundian police spokesman said Wednesday.
"A man riding a motorbike exploded a grenade through a window of a car, seriously injuring a man and slightly injuring four others who were in the car. The man later died," Burundian Police Spokesman Pierre Nkurikiye said.
According to him, the grenade blast happened around 19:30 (17:30 GMT) and the attacker ran away after exploding the grenade.
Witnesses said most of the victims are members of the same family.
Violence is renewed while Burundian citizens are commemorating on Wednesday the second anniversary of a political impasse caused by Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza's third term bid.
Burundi has suffered turmoil since April 26, 2015 when President Nkurunziza decided to run his controversial third term in violation of the national constitution and the 2000 Arusha Agreement that ended a decade-long civil war.
Over 500 people in Burundi are reported to have been killed during the crisis while some 400,000 people fled to neighboring countries mostly Tanzania, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) and Uganda since the outbreak of the crisis.
