KIEV, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on Tuesday that he hopes to deepen all-round cooperation with China.

"We will continue to further deepen cultural and economic cooperation between Kiev and Beijing," Poroshenko wrote on Facebook, while commenting on his wife's participation in the Sino-Ukrainian cultural exchanges week, titled "One Belt One Road."

Cultural dialogue between the East and the West is the key to a sustainable global development and the path towards freedom and peace, Poroshenko said.

The Sino-Ukrainian cultural exchanges week kicked off on Monday in the Ukrainian capital. The festival is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Ukraine and the upcoming Belt and Road forum for international cooperation in Beijing in May.

Ukraine and China established diplomatic ties on Jan. 4, 1992, shortly after Ukraine gained its independence from the former Soviet Union.

The Belt and Road means the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road that are in development under an initiative brought up by China in 2013, which aspires to build a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along the ancient Silk Road routes.
