ISLAMABAD, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan Army on Tuesday contacted the Indian Army for the security of enumerators who are involved in population census near the Line of Control (LoC), the military said.

"Indian Army has been approached through hotline contact and asked to inform ground troops about movement of civil and military enumerators to civil populated areas lying close to LoC and Gilgit Baltistan," an army statement said.

The statement said the step is aimed at ensuring safety and security of civil and military personnel.

The Pakistan army officers contacted their Indian counterparts at a time when the relations are tense and an escalation was witnessed along the LoC in recent months.

The statement said military officials had made similar arrangements prior to commencement of the first phase of the census launched last month.

The authorities launched the second phase on Tuesday under tight security.

Phase two of the census also entails movement of civil and military enumerators to designated districts, including villages and houses located close to LoC.
