TOKYO, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday as investor sentiment was bolstered by rallies on U.S. and European bourses.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 203.45 points, or 1.08 percent, from Monday to close the day at 19,079.33.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 16.02 points, or 1.07 percent, to finish at 1,519.21.
Securities, insurance and nonferrous metal-related stocks comprised those that advanced the most by the closing bell, and advancing issues outpaced declining ones by 1,633 to 305 on the First Section.
On the main section Tuesday, trading volume came to 1,948.68 million shares, rising marginally from Monday's volume of 1,921.19 million shares.
The turnover on the second trading day of the week totaled 2,301 billion yen (20.87 billion U.S. dollars).
