MOSCOW, April 25 (Xinhua) -- About 6,900 Russians with tick bites have been admitted to hospitals since March 16, the Russian news agency TASS reported Tuesday.
"Rospotrebnadzor believes that such dynamics corresponds to the average level", TASS quoted Russian federal health and epidemic watchdog Rospotrebnadzor as saying.
Since March 16, the department has begun to monitor weekly the spread of tick-borne encephalitis and other infections transmitted through tick bites. The number of people affected by tick bites doubled last week, it said.
Rospotrebnadzor also conducted acaricide treatment and over 6,300 hectares of territory have been vaccinated by now.
"The situation remains under the control of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being," the department added.
