COPENHAGEN, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Denmark launched a week-long science festival on Monday aimed at celebrating the fundamental element of research and establishing a meeting place between researchers and the general public.

The festival kicked off with an opening ceremony at Experimental City in Copenhagen, where Crown Princess of Denmark Mary and Minister of Education and Science joined visitors, mostly school children, to explore various scientific apparatus.

The Crown Princess Mary also handed over the Research Communication Prize 2017 to quantum physicist Jacob Sherson of Aarhus University at the ceremony.

Sherson has developed a computer game that utilizes people's intuition to help science towards the ultimate goal: the quantum computer.

Organized by Ministry of Education and Research, the Danish Science Festival takes place every year in week 17 with about 600 different events in more than 100 cities all over the country.
