Cambodian PM to attend ASEAN summit in Philippines later this week

PHNOM PENH, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen will attend the 30th ASEAN summit to be held on April 29 in Manila, the Philippines, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

"As ASEAN is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, at the 30th ASEAN summit, the ASEAN leaders will discuss and exchange views on critical issues which ASEAN and the world are facing to further promote peace, security and prosperity for the region and the world," the statement said.

"The ASEAN leaders will also stress on the emerging issues of uncertain political and economic situation," it said.

According to the statement, situation in the Middle East and in the Korean peninsula as well as in the world, including the world economy, have been ASEAN's utmost concern.

At the end of the summit, a chairman's statement will be issued and a number of documents are expected to be signed, it said.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
