VIENTIANE, April 21 (Xinhua) -- The eighth group of Chinese young volunteers to Laos has arrived in Laos and will offer a six-month service in education, medical care and communications.
The volunteers come from the sectors of radio broadcasting, education, healthcare, computer, and sports of China's Shanghai city.
They will be deployed to Lao central youth league, hospitals, schools, television stations, among other agencies as volunteers for half a year.
Vice Secretary of Lao Youth Union Central Committee Alounxay Sounnalath at a ceremony on Friday expressed his gratitude to the support of Chinese government to Lao Youth Union.
In the past years, Chinese volunteers have contributed greatly to the work of Lao relevant agencies, and it is believed that Chinese young volunteers will carry forward the fine results of previous volunteer groups' work, so as to further promote the friendship between Laos and China, he said.
Economic and commercial counselor of Chinese embassy in Laos Wang Qihui said the participation of young volunteers is part of the supports of Chinese government to Laos.
It is hoped that Chinese young volunteers will overcome difficulties and take efforts to contribute to the bilateral friendship between the two countries, Wang said.
Speaking at the ceremony, Liu Yong, a representative of Chinese young volunteers said the team will make joint efforts to serve the socio-economic development of Laos, and to promote China-Laos youth exchanges.
Since 2002, China Youth League and the Ministry of Commerce of China have authorized Youth League Committee of Shanghai and Shanghai Association of Volunteers to set up China (Shanghai) volunteer teams to Laos.
