TEHRAN, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry has condemned a deadly shooting in Paris on Thursday evening ahead of French presidential elections, Press TV reported on Friday.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi urged world countries to join hands and help eradicate the threat of terrorism "with strong determination."

Qasemi criticized western support for "double standards" in dealing with the issue of terrorism, saying it has emboldened terrorists to launch another attack at the heart of Europe.

He described terrorism as "the first and most immediate threat against the global peace, stability and security," stressing that the scourge "cannot be eliminated without a consensus as well as a firm and honest will among members of the international community."

Thursday's shootout in central Paris, claimed by the Islamic States group, killed one police officer and injured two others, local media reported.
