KIEV, April 19 (Xinhua) -- An international business council, uniting business associations and chambers of commerce from six countries, was set up in Ukraine on Wednesday.

Representatives of China, the United States, Germany, Turkey, France and Ukraine signed a memorandum on establishing a joint business council at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCI) in Kiev.

While addressing the ceremony, UCCI President Gennady Chizhikov said that the main aim of the newly-created business platform is to improve the business environment in Ukraine.

"Our goals are to improve the conditions for self-rule of business in Ukraine, intensify and strengthen the dialogue between the businesses and the government in Ukraine, and protect the business interests of foreign and domestic investors in Ukraine," Chizhikov said.

The improvement of the business environment will attract fresh investment in Ukraine and contribute to the development of the country's economy, he added.

Meanwhile, Olexandr Danyleyko, head of the economic cooperation department at Ukraine's Foreign Ministry, said the government strongly supports the creation of the international business council in Ukraine.

"This is a very important step. ... It creates new chances that the voice of business will be heard by the government and by the international partners," Danyleyko said.

In the near future, business associations from Britain and Austria are expected to join the newly-established business council.
