Myanmar people's domestic investment hit 9.69 bln USD

YANGON, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar people's domestic investment reached 13.191 trillion kyats (9.69 billion U.S. dollars) as of March, according to statistics of Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA) released on Wednesday.

The local people's investment in 1,241 enterprises cover 11 sectors, of which real estate development sector accounted for 2.767 trillion kyats, followed by manufacturing (2.438 trillion kyats), transport (2.302 trillion kyats) and hotels and tourism (1.415 trillion kyats).

Other sectors, into which local investments were injected, include construction, industrial estate, power, mining, livestock and fishery and agriculture.

Local private investment during the first one-year tenure of the incumbent government, led by the National League for Democracy (NLD), has reached over 1.567 trillion kyats.

Meanwhile, the real estate market in Yangon seemed not encouraging with most of the developers and owners of the apartments having to depend on rental market rather than sale, said real estate business operators.

The condominiums in the commercial city have lesser foreign investors.

According to official figures, foreign investment in Myanmar's real estate sector amounted to a total of 3.754 billion U.S. dollars as of March since late 1988, ranking the fifth in the country's foreign investment line-up with 5.34 percent of the total's 70.35 billion U.S. dollars.
