MANILA, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine government unveiled on Tuesday its development strategies dubbed "Dutertenomics," which are expected to bring about an infrastructure boom in the country.
At a forum held here on Tuesday, Philippine Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez said that for an archipelagic country, poor infrastructure "is debilitating."
He noted that in the decades when the Philippines neglected its infrastructure, its neighbors rapidly built up theirs. "We lost out on competitiveness," he said.
The forum announced six governmental agencies related to infrastructure will be united for the first time under "Dutertenomics," including departments of finance, budget, transportation, public works and authorities of national economy and development, bases conversion and development.
"Dutertenomics" also eyes to reduce the poverty incidence to 14 percent by 2022 from 21.6 percent in 2015 by creating jobs and investing in human capital.
It is reported by local media that there will be 55 flagship and "game-changing" projects that the administration aims to roll out and complete around 2022.
