SYDNEY, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The completion of round 27 in Australia's A-League brings an end to the regular season fixtures.
Out of the ten sides in the league, six will go through to the playoffs and compete for a place in the grand final.
On Friday, second-placed Melbourne Victory dispatched of the eighth-placed Central Coast Mariners at home with a 1-0 victory that saw Kosovan international star-striker Besart Berisha score his 100th goal in the Australian competition.
First-placed Sydney FC were too much for the last-placed Newcastle Jets on Saturday, dominating possession and running out 2-0 winners over the visitors.
Saturday's other game summed up ninth placed Adelaide United's season.
Despite being up 2-0, the home side lost their intensity; after conceding from a freekick, they then gave away a penalty to the Western Sydney Wanderers, which saw the final score finish 2-2, leaving Adelaide' s faithful home supporters fuming.
On Sunday, the seventh-placed Wellington Phoenix made their way to Queensland to face the Brisbane Roar.
At half time the home side were 3-1 down, but a second half resurgence saw Brisbane claw their way back to 4-3 and edge their way to third place on the ladder.
The final match between Perth Glory and Melbourne city ended 5-4, with seven goals coming in the second half.
At one stage, the Glory were up 5-1, but in the last ten minutes, the visitors piled on four goals.
Although tied on points, Melbourne City FC will hold onto fourth position via goal difference and the Glory end the season in fifth.
