SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, April 18 (Xinhua) -- A moderate earthquake Tuesday shook Indian-controlled Kashmir and its adjoining areas, officials and locals said.
According to Meteorological Department officials in Srinagar, the earthquake measuring 5.0 magnitude occurred at 10:41 a.m. local time.
"The epicentre of today's earthquake was in Jammu and Kashmir region located at 33.8 degrees north latitude and 76.6 degrees east longitude," said an official at the Meteorological Department.
The earthquake was felt throughout Kashmir and its tremors triggered panic among residents.
"I felt the earthquake while sitting inside the third floor of my office," Asif Ahmad, a Srinagar resident told Xinhua. "Then we all rushed downstairs and remained in open for few minutes."
However, according to officials no reports of damage were received so far from any part of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
