TOKYO, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday following a solid lead from Wall Street overnight, with the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar further lifting the mood and giving exporter-linked issues a boost.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 168.65 points, or 0.92 percent, from Monday to 18,523.91.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 14.56 points, or 0.99 percent, to 1,480.25.

Issues that notably advanced in early play comprised marine transportation, nonferrous metal and securities-linked stocks.
