Forest fire put out in NE China, no casualties reported

HARBIN, April 16 (Xinhua) -- A huge fire that raged through a forest in northeast China has been put out and no casualties have been reported, local authorities said Sunday.

The fire broke out in Sanwu Forest Farm in Hegang city, Heilongjiang Province, at 11:50 a.m. Saturday. More than 1,000 fire fighters were despatched along with another 1,000 volunteers on standby.

The fire was extinguished at 11:50 p.m. Saturday and the clean-up is underway.

The scale of damage and the cause are being investigated.
