FRANKFURT,April 12 (Xinhua) -- German federal prosecutor's office said Wednesday in a statement that judging from modality of the crime, the attack on the Borussia Dortmund team bus on Tuesday evening might have terrorist background.

Based on the investigation so far, two suspects were involved in the attack and their accommodations were searched, according to the prosecutor's office. One suspect was detained.

The authority confirmed that around 7.15 p.m. Tuesday, on its way from hotel to stadium, the Borussia Dortmund team bus was hit by three explosions, which badly damaged the vehicle, injuring one player.

The explosive devices hidden in a hedge in advance contained metal rods, which made the impact of explosions reach up to over 100 meters.

In the meantime, three letters claiming responsibility for the attack have been found near the site, one of which asked for withdrawing air force jets from Syria and closing the Ramstein Air Base.

Moreover, one further letter claiming the responsibility of left-wing extremist for the attack showed up on internet. But the authenticity of the claim is highly questionable, said the prosecutor's office.

The exact motivation of the attack remains unclear, even if an Islamist background seems possible, according to the investigator.
