KABUL, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Casualties were feared as an explosion rocked near the government office buildings in Afghanistan's capital of Kabul on Wednesday, sources and witnesses said.

"The blast took place in Murad Khanni locality where the Defense Ministry building and Ministry of Finance are located, roughly at 04:45 p.m. local time. The nature of the blast remained unknown but suicide bombing is expected," witness Mohammad Ajmal told Xinhua.

The blast sent a thick black smoke at the site and the area was condoned off by the security personnel.

The obvious target of the attack was a moving bus carrying government employees, a security source told Xinhua anonymously.

"We still cannot provide details on causalities. There is fear of possible causalities," he said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
