JAKARTA, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's resort island of Bali will hold an international recreational running event, entitled 2017 Nusa Dua Cultural Run, next month.

The event, slated on May 14, includes categories in 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers and half marathon, for men and women respectively, the organizer said.

"The event offers exceptional experiences for the runners as the route would pass through five-star resorts, international golf courses and white sand beaches in Nusa Dua area. It would also be featured with cultural attractions along the route," Jatmiko Santosa, deputy director of co-organizer agency ITDC (Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation) said on Monday.

He said the organizers would provide several refreshment points as well as medical emergency facilities along the route.

Jatmiko expected the event would further attract domestic and foreign visitors to spend their vacations in the upscale resort areas of Nusa Dua in Bali, which has hosted holidays of prominent international figures.

Indonesia Tourism Minister Arief Yahya hailed the event.

He said such a sport tourism event that allows runners to view beautiful natural sceneries along the route would effective promote tourism in the country.

"It would further improve brand of Bali as a world-class destination," the minister said on Monday.

Bali was recently selected as the best island in Asia for 12 consecutive years by DestinAsia magazine.
