YEREVAN, April 9 (Xinhua) -- On Sunday, the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia announced the final results of the parliamentary vote held on April 2.

The final outcome of the election has no major changes from the official preliminary results announced on Monday. Thus the ruling Republican Party will have 58 parliamentarians (55.2 percent), Tsarukyan Alliance will have 31, ELQ alliance--9, and ruling party's junior coalition partner Armenian Revolutionary Federation will be presented by 7 MPs. In total the new parliament will have 105 MPs.

On April 2, Armenia held its first parliamentary elections since the adoption of constitutional changes in December of 2015 that have put the former Soviet nation on course to a parliamentary system of government shifting from the current semi-presidential structure.

The constitutional changes will take full effect amid the end of the second term of incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan in April of 2018. Executive power in the country will then be vested in the prime minister, with the president being elected by the parliament for one 7-year term and holding a largely ceremonial role.
