BRUSSELS, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Participants at a Syrian conference on Wednesday reiterated their support and commitment to the United Nations (UN)-moderated Syrian talks in Geneva.
According to an official statement, the conference worked towards furthering sustainable, inclusive peace, while addressing the urgent humanitarian needs inside Syria.
Participants pledged to put forward six billion U.S. dollars in aid for the troubled country in 2017, as well as multi-year pledges of 3.73 billion U.S. dollars for 2018 to 2020.
The conference was co-chaired by EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, UN humanitarian chief Stephen O'Brien, and the foreign ministers of Germany, Kuwait, Norway, Qatar, and Britain.
The conference brought together representatives of over 70 countries and international organizations, international and Syrian civil society, and built on previous years' conferences in Kuwait and London.
The co-chairs committed to tracking and reporting on delivery of pledges in coordination with the UN. They also said they would review progress on the commitments of the conference regularly at key international events during the year, according to the statement.
