VLADIVOSTOK, Russia, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Russia's Far East saw 7,800 Russians moving from abroad to the region in 2016 under a state program encouraging resettlement of overseas compatriots in a region that badly needs workforce, a local agency said Tuesday.

The Russians who moved to the Far East are mostly from Ukraine, Tajikistan and Armenia, according to the Russian Agency for the Development of Human Capital in the Far East.

The state program says seven territories in the Far East region "are characterized by a growing labor market and a high need for a workforce," said Valentin Timakov, director of the agency.

Participants in the program can receive Russian citizenship, a relocation allowance of 4,300 U.S. dollars and 2,150 dollars for each family member, he said.
