PRAGUE, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Czech President Milos Zeman appointed Jiri Havlicek as the new industry and trade minister on Tuesday.

Zeman said Havlicek would develop the long tradition of Czech industry and would not let it fade away.

Former Czech industry and trade minister Jan Mladek was dismissed at the end of February, after which the ministry was temporarily headed by Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka.

Sobotka said Mladek was dismissed due to his reluctance to seek a reduction in the high prices of mobile data.

Havlicek, 40, was deputy industry and trade minister from early 2014 until now. He said his priorities were pushing through a bill on electronic communication, faster development of high-speed internet and an amendment to the law on the Czech trade inspection authority.
