PHNOM PENH, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Revenue from ticket sales to foreigners visiting Cambodia's famed Angkor archeological park reached 30.8 million U.S. dollars in the first quarter of 2017, up 51.6 percent over the same period last year, according to an official report on Saturday.
The ancient site welcomed 764,146 foreign tourists during the January-March period this year, up 9 percent over the same period last year, said the report of the state-owned Angkor Enterprise.
The remarkable increase in the revenue was due to the hike in ticket prices since February 1.
The current price for a one-day ticket is 37 U.S. dollars, up from 20 U.S. dollars, a three-day pass increased to 62 U.S. dollars from 40 U.S. dollars, and a seven-day ticket climbed to 72 U.S. dollars from 60 U.S. dollars.
Located in northwestern Cambodia's Siem Reap province, the Angkor archeological park, inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1992, is the kingdom's top tourist destination.
Most tourists to the site are Chinese, South Koreans and Americans.
