KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said Friday that his country would retain the diplomatic ties with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) after the two sides reached an agreement over the killing of a DPRK male national.

Najib, who is on an official visit to India, said Malaysia hoped such incident would not be repeated as it would be detrimental to the relations of the two countries, Bernama, the state news agency, reported.

Najib was quoted as saying both parties must hold to the diplomatic principles and respect the Vienna Convention if they were to ensure that diplomatic ties could be resumed.

The killing of the DPRK man has triggered diplomatic fallout between Malaysia and DPRK as the two countries banned each other's citizens from leaving.

The ban was lifted on Thursday after the two countries reached an agreement through secretive negotiation. The nine Malaysian diplomats and their family arrived in Malaysia early Friday, as Malaysia repatriated the body to DPRK and allow three DPRK citizens wanted for investigation to leave the country.
